Big congratulations to Roman Maikin, sprinter of Gazprom RusVelo, who won the second stage of the Tour of Estonia (2.1). The success of Maikin also allowed him to take the second position in the general classification, behind Grzegorz Stepniak, Polish rider of CCC, with a gap of just two seconds.

“I’m very happy for this victory”, shared Roman his excitment after the finish “This year I managed to finish several times in the top ten, but I always missed something to gain a top success. I want to thank my team mates for their help that brought me to the podium. The pace was very high throughout the race, with so many young people who are performing at their best. For this reason it hasn’t been easy to bring home this result”.

“There were constant attacks from the group”, Maikin continues, “and we had to keep under control the tread. I also struggled on the intermediate sprints, working on the bonification seconds. The victory paid off in this team effort, the only regret was not being able to take the first position in the overall standings in the end.  We have definitely shown the ability to fight for the victory, especially on the treacherous path of ascents, and success has given us a great satisfaction”.

“We are certainly satisfied”, confirms  sport director Alexey Markov. “For this race we set the goal of controlling the peloton, master the situation and bring us at the podium.  The stage was not easy today and a crush in the group complicated it even more. But our riders all together did a good job and brought us that victory”.
