Ildar Arslanov: the Best Young Rider of Tour d’Azerbaijan
Gazprom-RusVelo rider Ildar Arslanov became the best young rider following the results of Tour d’Azerbaijan which closed on Sunday May 8th. Ildar won the leader’s white jersey in the very first leg and did not lose his positions until the very end of the race.
Arslanov also took the high fifth place in the overall standings finishing the race among the leaders in the key mountain stage. For the first time in his professional career, the 22-year-old rider started a stage race as a team leader.
“The race went in a pretty calm manner,” said Ildar Arslanov. “I think that in order to compete for any of the prizes I had to do better in yet another difficult stage with mountains in it, but I’m sure that I have to be happy with what I have. This is my best result in recent years, so I am very happy. I hope this race will be a turning point for me personally, and my results will be getting only better. Of course, I would like to thank my team, they worked well and smoothly, helped me a lot, I knew I could rely on the guys. It was my first race as a captain and team leader — so I can say Good Start!”
