Gazprom — RusVelo will compete in Tirreno-Adriatico
On 07-13 of March the Russian cycling team Gazprom — RusVelo will compete in the WT stage-race Tirreno-Adriatico.
Also known as the “Race of the Two Seas” Tirreno-Adriatico is a prestigious Italian stage-race which runs between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts. Originally incepted in 1966 the race was previously considered as the final warm-up for Milano-Sanremo, held three days later on 17 of March. However, in recent years Tirreno-Adriatico has evolved to the Italian’s second biggest stage-race after Giro d’Italia, that always attracts the strongest contenders, and this year will not be an exception.
Tirreno-Adriatico features all kinds of route profiles and disciplines: an opening TTT; two flat stages; two stages with expected bunch finishes; mountainous test with an uphill finish in Sarnano-Sassotetto and the ITT on the concluding racing day.
The most experienced rider of Gazprom — RusVelo Sergey Firsanov shared his expectations before the upcoming start: “Our line-up consists of three young newcomers for whom it will be definitely the central race of the season and a chance to justify themselves. Personally, I am setting up for the mountainous stage, on the other days I will be assisting my teammates. Of course, it is a great honor for our team to get the invitation to such a big race and we will do everything’s possible to justify it”.
Line-up for Tirreno-Adriatico: Igor Boev, Nikolay Cherkasov, Alexander Foliforov, Sergey Firsanov, Artem Nych, Stepan Kurianov, Alexander Vlasov.
