Gazprom – RusVelo is to compete in Tour du Limousin
On the 15-18 of August Russian cycling team Gazprom – RusVelo will compete in Tour du Limousin. The French race has a 2.1 category and is part of UCI Europe Tour.
Originally, incepted in 1968, Tour du Limousin was promoted to its professional status in 1975. This year it will be the anniversary 50th edition. Riders are to cover 707 kilometres in four racing days in the French region Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The city of Panazol will host the grand opening, whilst the concluding stage will traditionally end up in Limoges. Hilly terrain specialists and sprinters have it all to claim the overall victory. The second stage with an uphill finish is the most crucial for the allocation of places in GC. Even though the remaining stages won’t be completely flat, altimetries will be certainly appealing for sprinters.
Main hopes of Gazprom – RusVelo are on Roman Maikin, who took over a stage-win in Tour du Limousin last year. After the recent mountainous test in Tour de Pologne, Ivan Rovny and Evgeny Shalunov are set up to prevail in the climbers’ stage in Tour du Limousin and fight for the highest places in the overall classification.
Roman Maikin shared his expectations about the upcoming race: “It is a pleasure to come back to France and especially to compete in Tour du Limousin. Last year I managed to win in one of the stages and that was one of my major achievements. The altimetry of this year’s edition suits me well and I look forward competing for the good positions in the final kilometres and then with what’s left of my strength to fight for the victories in uphill finishes. I am confident that my teammates are ready to give the fight and do their best to support me in the crucial moments of the race.”
Gazprom – RusVelo line-up: Sergey Lagutin, Ivan Rovny, Artur Ershov, Artem Ovechkin, Andrey Solomennikov, Roman Maikin, Evgeny Shalunov, Evgeny Kobernyak.
