Daria Shmeleva wins four medals at the European Championship
Track members of Gazprom — RusVelo Anastasia Voinova and Daria Shmeleva claimed five medals at the European Championship in Glasgow.
Fifth year in a row at the European Championships Daria and Anastasia prevail in the team sprint. The Russians also let no chances to contenders in individual sprint and in the final they were competing among each other for gold, where Daria was faster. On the concluding days of track competitions Daria also won the 500m time trial and a bronze medal in keirin.
“I really wanted to see the result and evaluate my build-up for the championship, to be honest, the result exceeded my expectations. Now I am certain that the prep work was done properly. The support from the audience in Glasgow was great, the seats were completely filled during the whole day. Everything was well organized and volunteers were really friendly and willing to help”, — shared her opinion Daria Shmeleva.
“At the moment, I will take approximately ten days off, because I really need to recover morally. This championship was not easy for me and a lot of energy was left in Scotland. We will recover both physically and emotionally and start preparing for the upcoming World Cup rounds, cause the first one is already in October in France”, — added Daria.
General Manager of Gazprom — RusVelo Renat Khamidulin is glad about the recent results: «Daria Shmeleva and Anastasia Voinova demonstrated impressive results at the European Championships and decently defended the national Russian colors. Those are the intermediate results of the preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and they tell us that we are on the right path».
